I had the pleasure of interviewing, for several hours, Mrs. Margaret Price, an amazing and very vivacious Denville Resident who has lived in her present Denville Residence since 1960’s.

Mrs. Price, with her amazing memory, took me through her husband and her lives as well as her family’s. I created this first part from all the information Mrs. Price conveyed to me, in the interviews, about the origin of the seeing eye in Denville, New Jersey.

The residence Mrs. Price lives in was originally the Ebeling Residence, the first home of the Seeing Eye in the United States. Mrs Price and her husband, Robert Edmonds Price inherited the home from Robert’s Aunt and Uncle (the home was in Aunt Florence’s name). Florence’s husband, Wilheim Heinrich Ebeling (known affectionately by Margaret and her husband as Uncle Willi) was one of the first developers of the Seeing Eye in the United States. His connection came through the original founder, Morris Frank, who contacted Willheim on his expertise in training of German Shepherds. And the rest is history. Learn more about Uncle Willi and Aunt Florence through Mrs Margaret Price’s enthusiastic account of them.
